Meeting at the Ballpark
Since retiring from education, I have been working the last decade at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, TX for the Sugar Land Skeeters and Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Here are some of our experiences.

Personality of the Month - Grover Cleveland Alexander

Grover was born in Elba, NE, one of 13 children. He developed his throwing skills by chucking corn and throwing rocks. He stared his baseball career in 1911 and ended it in 1930, playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.
His career resume included: 373 wins, 436 complete games, 90 shutouts, a 2.56 ERA, 2198 strikeouts and only one balk in his 19 years on the mound. Grover is credited with six 20 game winning seasons and three consecutive 30 win seasons from 1915-1917.
Awards: 3X Pitching Triple Crown winner, 6X NL Win Leader, 4X NL ERA Leader, 6X NL Strikeout Leader, his Phillies uniform is retired, he is on the Phillies Wall of Fame, in the Cubs Hall of Fame and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938.
Interesting Facts: In 1909 Grover was struck in the head running to second base resulting in him being unconscious for two days and double vision for six months.
In 1915, Grover won the Phillies first World Series game ever and the Phillies World Series win would come 65 years later.
In World War I he experienced German mustard gas resulting in him suffering from shell shock and epileptic seizures for the rest of his life. This and the stress of the game made him an alcoholic.
